Thakurpur Jame Mosque, also known as Pirganj Jame Mosque, stands in Thakurpur village beside the Chuadanga–Jhenaidah road, about 2 km from town. Elders say a Sufi called Afu Shah came from West Bengal in 1698 and set up a khanqah here, and that he raised the mosque in a single night with the help of jinn, hence the name Jiner Masjid. The grounds cover about 30 bighas, with a large pond behind the mosque, rows of coconut trees and a graveyard. The entrance and interior have been tiled, but the old inner part has been kept, and an urs is held every year on 12 Falgun.
How to get there
Take an easy-bike or rickshaw from Chuadanga town along the Jhenaidah road to Thakurpur (about 2 km).
Good to know
The annual urs on 12 Falgun (late February) draws big crowds. Dress modestly and avoid prayer times.
