Haor waters, border hills and mystic songs
Sunamganj is a land of haors, huge seasonal wetlands that turn into inland seas in the rainy months, with the Meghalaya hills rising sharply along its northern edge. Tanguar Haor stretches to the hills, rivers run clear over stones near the border, and the songs of Hason Raja and Shah Abdul Karim are still sung in every village.

Place Tanguar Haor
টাঙ্গুয়ার হাওরA vast Ramsar wetland under the Meghalaya hills. Tourist boats inside its protected area are suspended for now, so check before you go.
Place Niladri Lake
নীলাদ্রি লেকA deep blue lake in an old limestone quarry at Tekerghat, framed by green hills across the border.

Budget band from a November 2022 Daily Star guide (Sunamganj town hotels 200-1,000 by quality; likely somewhat higher by 2026); mid from Hijol Resort at Tekerghat (1,500-2,500 in January 2025); upscale is a houseboat cabin on Tanguar Haor (10,000-12,000 per cabin for a two-day, one-night trip in January 2025). In 2026 the houseboat owners' association quoted 4,000-8,000 per person non-AC and 8,000-14,000 AC, food included.

No district-specific meal survey found; budget figures follow reported rice-hotel prices outside Dhaka (fish or meat meal 80-150 Tk, rice-bhorta-dal breakfast 20-50 Tk, 2023-2026) and mid figures follow the town's sit-down restaurants and chains where known. Tanguar Haor houseboat packages used to include all meals (about 5,000-10,000 Tk per person for two days and a night), but since August 2026 the district has barred houseboats inside the haor's protected boundary until further notice.
