Rangpur is the main city of the far north, known for the white Tajhat Palace, the handwoven shotoronji rugs of Nisbetganj and the Haribhanga mango. South of the city, Pairaband was the birthplace of Begum Rokeya, pioneer of women's education in Bengal.
