Excavations since around 2013 at Nateshwar in Tongibari upazila have uncovered brick stupas, temple platforms and other structures from Bikrampur's Buddhist period, roughly a thousand years ago. The site supports the region's link with Atish Dipankar, the scholar born in Bikrampur who carried Buddhist teaching to Tibet. Parts of the excavation are open to visitors, with paths along the trenches. Few tourists come, so you may have it largely to yourself.

How to get there

CNG from Munshiganj town to Tongibari, then a local auto to Nateshwar.

Good to know

Stay on paths and do not climb on exposed brickwork.
