Atish Dipankar and Bikrampur's Buddhist Legacy

The village of Bajrayogini honours the 11th-century scholar who carried Buddhism to Tibet.
Atish Dipankar Srijnan was born in Bikrampur, traditionally at Bajrayogini near Munshiganj, in the late 10th century. He taught at Vikramashila and travelled to Tibet, where he is still revered as a key teacher. Bajrayogini has a memorial at the site associated with his birthplace, and Buddhist visitors from abroad sometimes come on pilgrimage. Together with Nateshwar, it shows how important Bikrampur once was as a centre of learning.
