Mawa and the Padma Bridge
মাওয়া ও পদ্মা সেতু
Riverside views of the long Padma Bridge and the vast river, with hilsa eateries on the bank.
Mawa on the north bank of the Padma was for decades the busiest ferry ghat on the route to the south-west. The Padma Bridge, opened in 2022, now crosses the river close by, and its roughly 6 km span is an impressive sight from the bank. Boatmen offer trips out on the river, and the old ghat area still has rows of hilsa restaurants. Sunset over the Padma here is worth staying for.
How to get there
Bus via the Dhaka–Mawa expressway, about 1 hour from Dhaka.
Good to know
Stopping on the bridge itself is not allowed; view it from the riverbank or a boat.
