Baul Songs of Shah Abdul Karim
শাহ আবদুল করিমের বাউল গান
The 'Baul emperor' of Bangladesh, whose songs of love and the haor are sung everywhere.
Shah Abdul Karim, born in 1916 in Derai upazila of Sunamganj, became one of the most loved Baul singer-songwriters of Bangladesh, known as 'Baul Samrat'. His songs speak of devotion, social injustice and the life of the haor, and many are standards at gatherings, on radio and in films. Folk festivals in his memory are held in Sunamganj, and his home village of Ujandhol lies on the banks of the Kalni river.
