Songs of Hason Raja
হাছন রাজার গান
Mystic folk songs of a 19th-century zamindar-poet that are still sung across the haor country.
Hason Raja was a wealthy landowner of Sunamganj who turned from a life of pleasure to mysticism, composing hundreds of songs about the transience of life and longing for the divine. His songs, in simple Sylheti-flavoured Bangla, remain hugely popular in Bangladesh and India. In Sunamganj town, his family home has been turned into a museum with his belongings and manuscripts.
