The Munshi family's estate in Dharanibari union of Ulipur goes back to the mid-18th century, when Banwari Munshi, an official of the Nawab, was granted land here. The present mansion is believed to date from around 1880, going by an inscription, and was built by Binod Lal Munshi, an accountant of the Kasimbazar estate. Its facade is known for fine, richly decorated craftsmanship. The last family heads left for Kolkata after 1971, and the building has since passed into government hands. It is the main heritage stop on any Kurigram trip.
