The Tribal Cultural Institute was set up in Rangamati in 1978 to preserve the cultures of the Chakma, Marma, Tripura and other peoples of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Its museum shows traditional dresses, jewellery, weapons, coins, wooden and metal statues, musical instruments and handicrafts. Look for the old palm-leaf manuscripts and the map showing where each community lives. It is a good first stop before exploring the lake and villages.
