Kaptai Lake Kachki and Chapila

কাপ্তাই হ্রদের কাচকি-চাপিলা

Tiny silver kachki and chapila fish netted fresh from Kaptai Lake, fried crisp or cooked with onion and chilli.

Kaptai Lake is one of the country's biggest freshwater fisheries, and its catch is dominated by small fish like kachki and chapila. Rangamati's hotels fry them crisp or cook them as a dry chorchori with onion and green chilli, eaten with rice; you will also find rui and other carp from the lake. Each year fishing is closed for about three months from late April to let the fish breed, so the freshest small fish are on menus from mid-August onward.
