Rajshahi Kala Bhuna

রাজশাহীর কালা ভুনা

Dark, slow-fried beef curry that has become one of Rajshahi city's favourite eating-out dishes.

Kala bhuna is beef cooked down for hours with onion, garlic and plenty of spice until the gravy turns almost black and clings to the meat. The dish came from Chattogram, but Rajshahi has made its own name with it, and small eateries across the city cook it in big pots from early morning. Locals eat it with plain rice or roti, often late in the evening. A plate is one of the cheapest good meals in town.

Good to know

Go hungry and ask for roti if you want to taste the gravy properly.
