After Cyclone Aila flooded its fields in 2009, Kalabogi in Dacope rebuilt itself on bamboo poles over the tidal mud of the Shibsa river. Families now live in raised homes facing the Sundarbans across the water, storing rainwater in drums and earning from fishing and the forest. It is a working village rather than an attraction. A respectful visit shows the human side of the coast's climate story.
How to get there
Travel from Khulna to Dacope by road, then onward by local boat or bike towards Sutarkhali and Kalabogi.
Good to know
Ask before photographing people and homes; go with a local guide or NGO contact if you can.
