Titas River
তিতাস নদী
A slow, winding river of fishing boats and riverside villages, made famous by a classic Bengali novel.
The Titas loops around Brahmanbaria town on its way to the Meghna. In the rainy season it swells wide and the banks fill with boats, fishing nets and children swimming. Its fame comes from Adwaita Mallabarman's novel 'Titas Ekti Nadir Naam', about a fishing community on its banks, later filmed by Ritwik Ghatak. A hired country boat at sunset is the best way to see it.
How to get there
From Brahmanbaria town, ask a rickshaw to take you to a ghat on the Titas and hire a boat there.
Good to know
Agree the boat fare before setting off. Wear a life jacket if one is available.
