This temple stands in Potajia village, about 5 km west of Shahzadpur. Gobindaram Roy, a diwan from the wealthy local Roy family, built it as the family's place of worship around 1700. It rises about 30 feet in three storeys and is called navaratna because it once had nine chambers. The walls carried terracotta panels and images of gods. After the family left for India in 1947 the temple fell into decay, and the Department of Archaeology took it over in 1954.
How to get there
From Shahzadpur take an auto-rickshaw about 5 km west to Potajia village.
Good to know
Potajia is also dairy country, so the drive passes green pastures. Do not climb on the structure.
