Muhuri Project

মুহুরী প্রজেক্ট

A large irrigation dam near the coast whose reservoir fills with migratory birds in winter.

The Muhuri Project, built to irrigate and protect farmland, has a closure dam near where the Feni, Muhuri and other rivers meet the coast. Behind the dam a wide lake forms in the dry season, with fish farms, planted forest and open sky all around. In winter, ducks and other migratory birds gather on the water, and boatmen offer short rides. The site also had Bangladesh's first wind power station.

How to get there

About 25 km from Feni town via Sonagazi; take a bus or CNG.

Good to know

Bring binoculars in winter. Agree boat fares before setting out and keep clear of the sluice gates.
