Langalbandh Ashtami Snan

লাঙ্গলবন্দ অষ্টমী স্নান

A huge Hindu holy dip in the Old Brahmaputra each spring, drawing pilgrims from across the region.

On the eighth day of the waxing moon in the Bangla month of Chaitra, Hindu pilgrims gather at Langalbandh in Bandar upazila to bathe in the Old Brahmaputra. The ritual is believed to wash away sins, and the bathing ghats along the river become packed with people over a day and a night. A fair grows up around the ghats with food stalls and religious goods. It is one of the largest Hindu gatherings in Bangladesh.

Good to know

Expect very large crowds; go early and respect the bathing areas.
