On the full moon of the Bengali month of Kartik, usually in November, Hindu devotees gather at Kuakata for a holy dip in the sea at sunrise. The night before, prayers and kirtan fill the beach area, and a fair with stalls springs up. People come from across the south. It is one of the biggest crowd days of Kuakata's year.
