Jamalpur Zamindar Bari Mosque

জামালপুর জমিদারবাড়ি জামে মসজিদ

A 19th-century zamindar's mosque crowned with three domes and a forest of tall, carved minarets.

The Jamalpur zamindar family laid the foundation of their house in 1862, and work on the mosque beside it began in 1867. What makes it stand out is the roof: around 28 slender minarets, each roughly 35 feet tall and patterned differently, rise around three decorated domes. The walls inside and out are covered with floral and creeper motifs, and a big ornamental gateway leads into the compound. It is a protected monument of the Department of Archaeology and still used for daily prayers.

How to get there

From Thakurgaon town (about 8 km), take an auto on the Pirganj road past the airport to Shibganj Hat, then about 3 km west to Jamalpur.

Good to know

Dress modestly and avoid prayer times. Late-afternoon light shows off the minarets well.
