Balia Mosque

বালিয়া মসজিদ

An early 20th-century mosque known locally as the 'jinn mosque', with domes added only recently.

The Balia Mosque was built around 1910 by a local landowner, Meher Bakhsh Chowdhury, in a late Mughal style of brick and lime. For decades it stood without its domes, and local folklore said jinns had built it overnight and left before finishing. Restoration from the 2000s completed the domes and repaired the fine brickwork. It is now a well-kept, photogenic building in a village setting.

How to get there
