Jaflong
জাফলং
Clear water flows over pebbles beneath the Meghalaya hills, with a suspension bridge visible across the border.
At Jaflong, the Piyain river runs out of the Indian hills onto a broad bed of stones and sand. Across the border, the green slopes of Meghalaya and the Dawki suspension bridge rise above the water. Boats ferry visitors to the clear shallows at Zero Point, and nearby are Khasi villages with betel-leaf gardens. Stone collection has scarred parts of the area, but the setting remains memorable.
How to get there
About 1.5–2 hours by bus, CNG or car from Sylhet city along the Tamabil road.
Good to know
Never cross the border markers at Zero Point. Currents can be strong in monsoon, so swim only in shallows and wear a life jacket on boats.
