Gandhi Ashram, Joyag
গান্ধী আশ্রম, জয়াগ
The village where Gandhi stayed during his peace mission in 1947, now a museum and community trust.
In late 1946, after communal violence in Noakhali, Mahatma Gandhi walked from village to village to promote peace. He arrived at Joyag in January 1947, and a local landowner donated property that became the Gandhi Ashram Trust. Today the trust runs community development work, and a memorial museum displays photographs, letters and documents from his time in Noakhali.
How to get there
From Maijdi or Chowmuhani, take a CNG toward Sonaimuri and on to Joyag.
