Faridpur's northern edge runs along the Padma, one of the most prized hilsa rivers. Locals swear by the rich, oily flavour of Padma hilsa in mustard gravy or steamed in banana leaf. In the monsoon and early autumn, fish markets in Faridpur town are full of silver fish. Avoid buying during the official breeding-season ban, when fishing is prohibited.
