Lotkon (Burmese grape) grows on the trunks and lower branches of its trees rather than on the tips, so a fruiting orchard looks as if it is wrapped in yellow beads. Shibpur and Belabo upazilas are the country's best-known lotkon areas, with orchards on red-soil land. Farmers are often happy to let visitors walk in during harvest. Buy a few kilos straight from the tree.
How to get there
From Narsingdi town take a CNG to Shibpur, then ask locally for lotkon orchards.
Good to know
Harvest runs roughly June–August. Ask permission before entering a private orchard.
