Nikli Haor
নিকলী হাওর
An embankment road runs into a wetland that becomes a vast sheet of water in the monsoon.
Nikli is the most accessible of Kishoreganj's haors and a favourite weekend trip from Dhaka. In the rainy months the low basin fills completely, and the Nikli embankment becomes a long promenade with water on both sides. Trawlers and small boats take visitors out to village islands, where houses sit on raised mounds. At sunset the water and sky blur together.
How to get there
Bus from Dhaka to Kishoreganj town, then a CNG or local bus to Nikli, about 1 hour.
Good to know
Wear life jackets on boats and avoid going out in storms; carry rain gear.
