Miyar Dalan stands at Muraridaha, about three kilometres from the centre of Jhenaidah town, on the north bank of the Nabaganga river. Building began in 1229 and ended in 1236 of the Bangla calendar (roughly 1822–1829). Over the main gate a verse is carved naming the village, a lady called Bibi Ashrafunnesa, and the cost of 75,000 taka. The zamindar sold the house around Partition, and some locals call it Selim Chowdhury's house after the buyer. It is badly decayed now, and a story of a tunnel running under the river adds to its air of mystery.
How to get there
A rickshaw or easy bike from Jhenaidah town to Muraridaha (about 3 km).
Good to know
The structure is unsafe in places; stay out of crumbling rooms. Late afternoon by the river is the nicest time.
