Kartikpur in Naria upazila was once part of the Bikrampur zamindari, and the family that ruled here traced its line to a Mughal commander, Fateh Muhammad. Locally it is called Chowdhury Bari. A decorated two-storey house remains, and the road up to it is lined with carved pillars eight to ten feet tall, many now broken. There is also a pond with a brick bathing ghat. Descendants of the zamindars still live in the house, which is worn but standing.

How to get there

From Shariatpur town take a CNG or auto toward Naria and on to Kartikpur village; ask for the Chowdhury Bari.

Good to know

This is a private home, so ask the family's permission before entering the grounds and be respectful.
