Kaptai National Park

কাপ্তাই জাতীয় উদ্যান

Hilly evergreen forest beside the Karnaphuli at Kaptai, with forest trails and riverside picnic spots.

Kaptai National Park was declared in 1999 and covers about 5,465 hectares of mixed evergreen forest around Kaptai in Rangamati district. Teak and garjan plantations, some planted in colonial times, cover the hills above the Karnaphuli River just below the Kaptai dam. Short forest walks, watchtowers and riverside spots make it a quiet day out, and elephants, monkeys and many birds live in the wider forest. The road from Chattogram to Kaptai along the river is itself very pretty.

How to get there

From Rangamati take a bus or CNG to Kaptai (about 1.5 hours), or come directly from Chattogram by bus to Kaptai.

Good to know

Stay on marked trails and do not enter the forest at dusk; wild elephants live in the area.
