This mosque was built in 1476, in the reign of Sultan Shamsuddin Yusuf Shah, by Musa ibn Haji Amir and his son Majlis Alam, the Sultan's minister in Sylhet. It sits on a little hill in Goyghor village of Mostafapur union, in what villagers say was once tiger forest, and they point to three paw marks on an inside pillar. In 1593 the Afghan chief Khwaja Usman, one of the Baro Bhuiyans, is said to have taken shelter here, which is how it got its name. The dome has been rebuilt more than once, but the very thick brick walls, the Arabic inscription near the ceiling and a stone inscription on the west wall are old.

How to get there

From Moulvibazar town take a CNG towards Mostafapur union and ask for Goyghor village; the last stretch is a village road.

Good to know

It is a working village mosque: go outside prayer times, dress modestly and ask before going in. Combine it with a tea-garden drive towards Srimangal.
