Bithangal Akhra is a centuries-old Vaishnava religious centre in Baniachong upazila, set among haor wetlands. It has traditional buildings, old artefacts and resident devotees, and hosts gatherings on religious occasions. In the monsoon the surrounding fields turn into open water, and the boat ride there is a slow, beautiful journey across the haor.
How to get there
Travel from Habiganj town to Baniachong, then ask locally for a boat (monsoon) or road and footpath route (dry season) to Bithangal.
Good to know
Dress modestly and remove shoes in the temple area. Wear a life jacket on boats.
