Baroiyadhala was declared a national park on 6 April 2010 and covers about 2,934 hectares of hill forest in Sitakunda upazila. It is an important corridor for wildlife that is disappearing elsewhere, including the mainland serow, barking deer, marbled cat, macaques, pangolin and kalij pheasant. Most visitors come for the streams: rocky jhiri paths lead up to waterfalls, and the Khoiyachora falls lie within the park's forest. Away from those trails it is quiet, green and little visited.
How to get there
Take a Dhaka–Chattogram highway bus to Sitakunda, then a CNG to the Baroiyadhala area and hire a local guide there for the trails.
Good to know
Go with a local guide; trails are not marked. Wear shoes with grip, as rocks in the streams are slippery. Do not climb wet rock faces, and turn back if heavy rain makes the water rise.
